Pictures
of St Johns Wort (Hypericum
perforatum)
St Johns Wort is best know for it's use in mild to moderate cases of
depression. It is reported to be more popular than Prozac in
Germany. However, working with a doctor is every important as
only a doctor can help you control the dosage and monitor your actual
progress. You should also be aware that sun sensitivity is
very prominent with people who use this herb. Another popular
use is making and using the delightful red oil that's applied to sore
muscles and bruises. This is made with the flower alone and
olive oil.
What
kinds of areas can St Johns Wort be found in?
Fields, roadsides and places that have been disturbed are the
likely places for finding this herb. I have always marveled
at the fact that this herb seems to grow in places that people are
feeling stressed - it's almost like the plant is saying, "Here I am."
Are you
harvesting (a.k.a wildcrafting)? The entire
above ground plant is used - when it is flowering. If you are
making an oil for topical application, just the flowers are used.
One way to be sure you're harvesting the right plant is to
squeeze the flower to see if it produces a red juice.

you like more information on St Johns Wort?
As the herbal detail pages are loaded on the website you'll find a link
here (instead of this little note).
Where
can you buy St Johns Wort? Because Mountain
Rose Herbs does not over stock you can be sure that your product is as
fresh as it can be. With something as important as this herb
I would either harvest my own, or only buy from Mountain Rose Herbs.

As you
can see here, St Johns Wort grows in bushy clumps.
This picture was taken on June 24, 2007.
The red berries in the background have nothing to do with this plant.
This
photo (also taken in June of 2007) gives you a good example of all
the stages of the flower on the plant.

Here is
a close up of the leaves just before the plant flowers.

Would you like to use my pictures?
I have a solution that would be wonderful for both of us. You
are free to right click and copy my photographs. I ask that
you give a visible link back to this page in the same location as the
picture. Once it is set up on your website send me a note and
I'll put a link to your page, on the picture page - as someone legally
using my photos. This would give both of us reciprocal links,
which search engines love.
Here's what I require:
* Right click and copy the image to your own computer.
When you are loading it on your page upload the picture to
your own server. In other words - please do not use the link
location thereby using my bandwidth.
* Do not edit the picture in any way - except for size,
always keep the aspect ratio. Please leave my copyright
information on the image. All my images are formated to be
under 100 kb.
* Your site must not contain offensive material and must
somehow be related to herbs.
* If you are using this in written material I will require
seeing a copy of the material (with the placement of the picture)
before I give my approval. We can exchange mailing
information along with copyright use / sale via eMail.
