The Herbal How To Guide
Teaches You the Fun of Working with Plants.

You've most likely come to the Herbal How To Guide because you have some fresh plants (either from your garden, a local farmer's market, given by a friend or maybe even collected in the wild) and you want to learn how to play with them. Wonderful! We're going to have a lot of fun exploring the botanical world together.

It is my goal to share the decades of botanical knowledge that I've been privileged to receive and to include YOUR knowledge (coming real soon) to make this a truly comprehensive website.

The botanical world has a rich and beautiful history filled with cooking, crafts, magic & folklore, personal care and medicine.

For example; I used to think that the old time medicine people cut the tails off poor little lizards - until I learned there is a flower called Lizard's Tail. They were making medicine from plants.

And then there's the delicate beauty
only visible to those that know
when and where to look.
Bloodroot Flower, Sanguinaria canadensis

I fell in love with the botanical world when Mother Nature began opening her knowledge to me. I hope you fall in love, as well, as you learn and share.

Here are some of the things you'll find on this website:
  • How to identify wild plants with a lot of pictures and information. Most important, DON'T TOUCH IT until you know what it is.
  • Respect Mother Nature and learn to care for her while you're collecting. Also learn how to harvest to insure that you'll have more and more each year.
  • Yummy recipes to delight your family and friends.
  • And SO MUCH MORE.
Use the navigation bar to the left to find information you're interested in, or scan the table of contents below. Most important - spend time and enjoy this website - add your knowledge to help it grow. The whole reason it's here is for YOU.
