Composting Tumblers

Composting tumblers make this chore so much easier.  Use the examples on this page to build your own, or you could just purchase one of these directly from this page (just click any picture).  These are all featured through Amazon.com so you know the service is excellent.

Before I show you all the examples I'd like to tell you about my first, home made one.  Keep in mind that this was well before this idea became popular.  As a matter of fact I often think that I may have been able to sell my first idea (ha, ha).  Composting Tumblers are not needed for composting - learn how here.

For this home made idea you need a large plastic garbage can that seals really well, and grandchildren. Well I imagine you could do this without the grandchildren, but the garbage can is pretty necessary. As I explained on the page about composting, it took me awhile to get the hang of this gardening art form.  My early compost piles were hot and smelly.  Not understanding that I could control this with a little science I decided to hide it in a container.  All I did was throw my material into the can and allowed my grandchildren to roll it around in the yard.  I would take the lid off for good amounts of time each day (knowing it needed air) and I did add some worms.  Okay - maybe it wasn't a sellable idea, but it did work very well and I always had a lot of good compost for my garden.
